Learning To Wakeboard
Hey guys, long time no see! I've been incredibly busy over the past month or so and hope everyone had a great holiday. I am still posting from an overflow of my trip to Italy. Today, i wanted to share one of the coolest experiences of my life. I previously detailed my amazing stay at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, well they offered an experience I found too tempting to pass up. I have always been a bit of an adrenaline junky. I hear stories of cool things like bungee jumping and skydiving, but never get to try anything myself. But this, this was pretty cool. After a quick trip to the concierge desk, we booked a nine-thirty am lesson. None of us had successfully wakeboarded before, I've tried once but had quite a futile experience. We had a great breakfast at the restaurant and eventually made our way to the beach. The boat picked us right up on the dock/pool and we headed out to the middle of the lake.
Beautiful Morning
The Grand Hotel Tremezzo
The instructor was great and spoke very good English. You would think that would be a given for a tourism-based wakesports company, but our later instructor spoke only Spanish and Italian. He was clearly passionate and later explained that he grew up on the lake, his parents actually owned the company. My brother went first and absolutely killed it. The instructor gave him amazing advice the whole time. Using just his tips, he was able to get up on the first time! My sister went after him, she was as amazing as Aidan was. It really surprised me because she is usually quite frightened, but the instructor made her feel comfortable.
I went next. Originally, I planned to water ski but after seeing my siblings' success, I decided to try wakeboarding myself. Our instructor helped me strap into the board, then I flopped into the water. Let me say, I was pretty freaking nervous. After a second of a safety briefing, I gave him the start signal. That's when it happened, I got up! It was amazing. Just as he told me, I just let the boat pull me up. It was amazing and felt like I was gliding across the lake.
The adrenaline along with the beautiful views made this experience surreal, definitely one that I wont forget anytime soon. If anyone is interested, I believe the company was called "Wake Board Lake Como". Pretty simple eh? We got a good amount of time on the water, close to two and a half hours. After learning the basics we got to play around a bit. My brother and I both did the "Nae Nae". I know, could we be more mainstream? My parents themselves didn't go but they genuinely enjoyed getting to see us have fun and took in the sights. Then right after, our instructor drove us right back to our hotel's dock. It was in general an awesome experience and I highly recommend it to anyone staying on the lake.
